The Institute of Geological Sciences at the University of Bern, Switzerland, invites applications for a Full Professorship (tenured) starting on August 1, 2012. The successful candidate is expected to establish an internationally competitive research and teaching program in Structural Geology. Teaching duties include courses at all levels (BSc in German, MSc in English) for students with a major in Geology and also for students in Geography. It is also expected that the successful candidate will take on selected administrative responsibilities within the University and will collaborate in projects with other members of the Faculty of Science.

Candidates must have a strong scientific record in the field of Structural Geology, as demonstrated by publications in international peer-reviewed journals and by the acquisition of external research funding. In addition to demonstrated scientific and teaching excellence, candidates with the ability to combine field observations with quantitative models of processes in the Earth’s crust will be given preference. The desired research emphasis is on large-scale geodynamic processes that form the Earth’s surface, and/or the role of fluids in the deformation of the Earth’s upper crust. The University of Bern is ideally situated to take advantage of the Alps as a focus of research and teaching.

12 months engineer position for soil isotopic chemistry at CEREGE

The Centre Européen de Recherche et d'Enseignement en Géosciences de l'Environnement (CEREGE, Aix en Provence, France) is looking for applicants for a 12 months Engineer position on soil isotopic geochemistry. This position is funded by an ANR project on the "Characterisation, quantification and modelling of the impact of land use onto one of the major pedological processes: lessivage" leaded by the Institut National de Recherche Agronomique (INRA).

The engineer (IE) activities will take place, at CEREGE. The IE will mainly be in charge of the chemical preparation of samples for isotopes analysis in a clean room environment. Considered isotopic systèms are those of Si, C and Pb. For Si, the IE will achieve the development of Si isolation by alkaline fusion and liquid chromatography separation. He will also be in charge of sample preparation for other isotopes (13/12C and 206/207Pb). He will eventually contribute to isotopes measurements of Si on MC-ICP-MS, of C on IRMS and of Pb on TIMS or MC ICPMS. Competences in analytical chemistry or isotopic geochemistry are required. A mass spectrometry experience is an advantage.

The position is expected to start on January the 1st, 2011 and run until December the 31st, 2011 (12 months). Applications should arrive before November the 15th, 2010, but will be considered until the position is filled.

CDD de 12 mois Ingénieur d'étude en géochimie isotopique appliquée aux sols

Le Centre de Recherche et d'Enseignement en Géosciences de l'Environnement (CEREGE, Aix en Provence, France) cherche un ingénieur d'étude pour 12 mois pour un poste en géochimie isotopique appliquée aux sols. Le poste est financé par l'ANR sur le projet 2010 -- 2013 "Caractérisation, quantification et modélisation de l'impact de l'usage des terres sur un processus majeur d'évolution des sols : le lessivage." Le projet est piloté par l'Institut National de Recherche Agronomique (INRA).

Le poste à pourvoir est localise au CEREGE. L'IE sera principalement en charge de la préparation chimique des échantillons pour les analyses isotopiques dans un environnement "salle blanche". Les systèmes isotopiques seront ceux du Si, du C et du Pb. Pour le silicium, l'IE devra développer la séparation du Si par fusion alcaline et chromatographie liquide. Il sera aussi en charge de la préparation des échantillons pour les autres isotopes (13/12C and 206/207Pb). Il contribuera éventuellement aussi aux mesures isotopiques du Si en MC-ICP-MS, du C en IRMS et du Pb en TIMS ou MC-ICP-MS.

Des compétences en chimie analytique ou en géochimie isotopique sont demandées. Une expérience en spectrométrie de masse est un atout supplémentaire. Un niveau Licence ou BTS est demandé à minima.

Le poste est à pourvoir à partir du 1er janvier 2011 jusqu'au 31 décembre 2011. Les candidatures doivent être déposées avant le 15 novembre 2010, mais seront prises en compte jusqu'à ce que le poste soit pourvu.

Un client (Eastmain Resources Limited, www.eastmain.com) de Monsieur Franck VALLI (PhD Structural Geologist) est à la recherche d'un géologue d'exploration pour un contrat de 3 ans à temps plein. Monsieur Franck VALLI est donc chargé de trouver un candidat.

La société est basée à Orangeville (un petit village dans la campagne autour de Toronto) et ses propriétés sont toutes situées au Quebec.

Descriptif du candidat idéal :

• Diplôme de doctorat au cours duquel des compétences en tectonique/structurale et pétrologie ont été acquises
•  Grande expérience de terrain,
•  Bon niveau d’Anglais (surtout à l’écrit),
•  Expérience dans l’industrie minérale, ou au moins une forte motivation pour y travailler,
• Capacité à travailler en équipe dans des régions reculées au climat parfois rude.
